Hubert H. Humphrey

Hubert Horatio Humphrey, Jr. (1911-1978) was a U.S. politician who served as mayor of Minneapolis, U.S. senator from Minnesota, and U.S. vice president over the course of a long public career. The more than 2,600 pages posted here were released previously under FOIA. They consist of an extensive file that details the FBI’s relationship with Humphrey from 1945 to 1974. This material contains extensive cordial corrrespondence between Humphrey and the Bureau, the results of background investigations related to Humphrey, and investigations of threats of violence against him. There is also a short file from 1970 in which the Bureau considered whether or not a perjury investigation was warranted against Humphrey or former Howard Hughes’ aide Robert Maheu; in the end, no investigation was pursued.
